About Us

The Friends of the Fargo Public Library was organized in March 1995.

The Friends are a volunteer nonprofit organization that supports the Fargo Public Library, raising funds for library programming that benefits the entire community. Our board includes nine individuals who serve a three-year term (up to two terms).

Proceeds from the Friends’ fundraising activities are spent on items that improve and expand the services offered by the Library that aren’t always covered by public funding. Fundraising activities include used book sales at all three branches, book bag sales, and membership support.

Past initiatives we have funded include:

  • The annual 1 Book, 1 Community reading program

  • Northern Narratives

  • The installation of a StoryWalk in the green space by Ed Clapp Elementary School and the Dr. James Carlson Library

  • Crafternoons

  • Tuesdays for Toddlers

  • Purchased books for the Summer Reading Challenge summer reading program

  • Purchased library furniture and equipment
